A palladium-catalyzed tandem dehydrogenative [4 + 2] annulation of terminal olefins with N-sulfonyl amides via C(sp(2))-H activation, allylic C(sp(3))-H activation, and homoallylic C(sp(3))-H elimination processes has been developed. A metal-free and base-free Cl3CCN mediated method was developed for the ipso-hydroxylation of aryl boronic acids to their corresponding phenols, which was promoted by a key unstable Lewis adduct intermediate. This transformation has broad functional group tolerance, and late-stage functionalization was successful as well. An amine-functionalized metal organic framework (MOF) was used as highly efficient and recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for Knoevenagel condensation of various aromatic aldehydes and ketones in ethanol. The catalytic efficiency was demonstrated by the high conversion of the reactants with 100% selectivity under microwave (mu W) irradiation, while dramatically reduced the reaction time as compared to the conventional heating method. Importantly, the MOF maintained its structural integrity after catalytic reactions and it could be reused several times without remarkable loss of activity.

Yinzhihuang granules (YZHG) is a patented Chinese medicine for the treatment of hepatitis B. This study aimed to investigate the intrinsic mechanisms of YZHG in the treatment of hepatitis B and to provide new evidence and insights for its clinical application. The chemical compounds of YZHG were searched in the CNKI and PUBMED databases, and their putative targets were then predicted through a search of the SuperPred and Swiss Target Prediction databases. In addition, the targets of hepatitis B were obtained from TTD, PharmGKB and DisGeNET. The abovementioned data were visualized using Cytoscape 3.7.1, and network construction identified a total of 13 potential targets of YZHG in the treatment of hepatitis B. Molecular docking verification showed that CDK6, CDK2, TP53 and BRCA1 might be strongly correlated with hepatitis B treatment. Furthermore, GO and KEGG analyses indicated that the treatment of hepatitis B by YZHG might be related to positive regulation of transcription, positive regulation of gene expression, the hepatitis B pathway and the viral carcinogenesis pathway. Network pharmacology intuitively shows the multicomponent, multitarget and multichannel pharmacological effects of YZHG in the treatment of hepatitis B and provides a scientific basis for its mechanism of action.

Essential oils (EOs) from anise seeds (Pimpinella anisum) collected in the Algerian region were extracted by microwave-assisted hydrodistillation (MAHD) and hydrodistillation (HD). The oil yield (%), chemical composition, energetic consumption and the antimicrobial properties were evaluated of the obtained EO. The yields obtained by both processes were 2.81 +/- 0.01% for 90 minutes and 3.30 +/- 0.05% for 330 minutes for MAHD and HD, respectively. The determination of the chemical composition of EOs by GC-MS revealed the presence of a majority compound,trans-anethole 81.52% and 91.31% for MAHD and HD, respectively. The other main compounds present in the oils for MAHD and HD were, respectively: methyl chavicol (estragole) (0.63%-1.39%),cis-anethole (0.23%-0.34%), anisaldehyde (1.1%-1.57%), anisyl methyl ketone (0.28%-0.13%),trans-methyl isoellgenol (0.31%-0.17%),gamma-himachalene (0.5%-0.36%),trans-pseudoisoeugenyl 2-methylbutyrate (6.53%-2.53%) and epoxy-pseudoisoeugenyl 2-methylbutyrate (2.01%-0.56%). The EO obtained by MAHD detected other compounds, fenchone 0.41%, limonene 0.68%,cis-jasmolacatone extra C 0.41%,trans-isolongifolanone 0.2% and alpha-himachalene 0.16%. The energetic consumption by MAHD was significantly less than HD. Theoretical data from mathematical modelling were compared with practical data, and the coefficient of determination was between 0.93 and 0.97. The sensibility of bacterial strains to the essential oil obtained by MAHD is marked relatively to that obtained by HD, and for the sensibility of fungal strains, it was conserved. The MAHD process revealed a good yield of anise seeds EOs while reducing extraction time and energetic consumption. The EO extracted by this process revealed the presence of other compounds while improving antibacterial activity.

Cleavage of C-O bonds in aryl ether through the catalytic transfer hydrogenolysis (CTH) is an encouraging method for the valorization of lignin into fine chemicals and liquid fuels. In this contribution, the CTH of typical lignin alpha-O-4 model compound 4-(benzyloxy)phenol (BOP) and lignin extracted from ash wood have been explored over 0.45 wt% Pt/HNbWO6/CNTs catalyst. The effect of solvents was elaborated and the highest catalytic activity was achieved in the CTH of BOP using isopropanol as the solvent (98.1%). This was because isopropanol can provide more hydrogen atoms to promote CTH reaction due to the weakest interaction between isopropanol and BOP among all H-donor solvents. The favorable results obtained in the model compound study inspired us to afford Pt/HNbWO6/CNTs catalyst in the CTH of lignin. The relative oxygen content of lignin was sharply decreased after the CTH process, and the higher heating value (HHV) significantly increased from 21.4 MJ/kg to 30.8 MJ/kg. GPC, FT-IR, GC-MS, and 2D-NMR results revealed that lignin was successfully depolymerized into small molecule compounds over Pt/HNbWO6/CNTs catalyst through the CTH process. Thereinto, phenolic compounds were the major components in the liquid products in which most of them were monophenols. The results obtained in this work shed light on that Pt/HNbWO6/CNTs was a favorable catalyst in the depolymerization of lignin into valuable phenolic compounds via the CTH method. Amines are a ubiquitous class of compounds found in a variety of functional organic building blocks. Within the past years, hydrogen autotransfer catalysis has evolved as a new concept for the synthesis of amines. A through understanding of the mechanism of these reactions is necessary to design optimal catalysts. We investigate secondary amine formation catalyzed by a NNNN(P)Ru-complex and provide understanding on the three reaction steps involved. We find that the ligand has to open one coordination site in order to allow the formation of a metal hydride intermediate. In a second step, a condensation reaction, which could also happen uncatalyzed in solution, is significantly enhanced by the presence of the ruthenium complex. The back-transfer of the hydride to the substrate in a third step regenerates the catalyst.

We report here novel Cu(I) thiophene carbaldimine catalysts for the selective aerobic oxidation of primary alcohols to their corresponding aldehydes and various diols to lactones or lactols. In the presence of the in situ generated Cu(I) species, a persistent radical (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperdine-N-oxyl (TEMPO)) and N-methylimidazole (NMI) as an auxiliary ligand, the reaction proceeds under aerobic conditions and at ambient temperature. Especially the catalytic system of 1-(thiophen-2-yl)-N-(4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl)methanimine (ligand L2) with copper(I)-iodide showed high reactivity for all kind of alcohols (benzylic, allylic and aliphatic). In the case of benzyl alcohol even 2.5 mol% of copper loading gave quantitative yield. Beside high activity under aerobic conditions, the catalysts ability to oxidize 1,5-pentadiol to the corresponding lactol (86% in 4 h) and Nphenyldiethanolamine to the corresponding morpholine derivate lactol (86% in 24 h) is particularly noteworthy.

The conversion of silyloxyarenes to boronic acid pinacol esters via nickel catalysis is described. In contrast to other borylation protocols of inert C-O bonds, the method is competent in activating the carbon-oxygen bond of silyloxyarenes in isolated aromatic systems lacking a directing group. The catalytic functionalization of benzyl silyl ethers was also achieved under these conditions. Sequential cross-coupling reactions were achieved by leveraging the orthogonal reactivity of silyloxyarenes, which could then be functionalized subsequently.

N-PEGylated-thiazolium salt is used as efficient catalyst for the benzoin condensation. The catalyst was synthesized by reaction of activated polyethylene glycol 10,000 (PEG-10000) with 4-methyl-5-thiazoleethanol (sulfurol).
