In the present work the products and characteristics of bio-yields obtained from pyrolysis of different types of walnut shells (WS) by using a fixed bed pyrolyzer. The different walnut shells considered are paper (PSW), thin (TSW), medium (MSW) and hard (HSW) shelled walnut. The biomass samples were pyrolyzed at various temperatures, particle sizes, heating and sweep gas flow rates. The results revealed that the maximum bio-oil 44.7, biochar 37.6 and gas 40.4 wt% yields have been obtained for HSW, MSW and HSW at a pyrolysis temperature of 550, 375 and 750 degrees C respectively at heating rate 0.33 K/sec, particle size 0.5-1.5 mm with swept gas flow rate 1.6 x 10(-6) m(3)/s. The higher heating value (HHV) of bio-oil obtained from different walnut shells are ranged from 26 to 27.3 MJ/kg. Comprehensive physiochemical characteristics such as density, viscosity, flash point, pour point and water content of bio-oils have been obtained. Chemical composition analysis of bio-oils revealed that the pyrolytic bio-oil composition is predominated by oxygenated compounds such as carbonyl, methoxy, phenols and carboxyl groups determined by GC-MS, FTIR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR. The pyrolysis gas mainly contained CH4 CO, H-2, CO2, and light hydrocarbons. Based on these results and structural analysis of the bio-oil, it can be concluded that the bio-oil obtained from WS may be used as a feedstock for furnaces, as a fuel, as a lubricant after modifications and value-added products via pyrolysis.

In the presence of [p-cymene)RuCl2](2), (E)-configured alkenyl bromides couple with aromatic carboxylates to form orthovinylbenzoic acids. This C-H vinylation proceeds in high yields without any activating phosphine ligands and has an excellent functional group tolerance. Starting from commonly available (E/Z)-mixtures of alkenyl bromides, (E)-configured vinyl arenes or dienes are formed exclusively. Mechanistic studies show that this selectivity is achieved because the (E)configured alkenyl bromides undergo a smooth coupling, whereas the (Z)-isomers are rapidly eliminated with the formation of alkynes.

Redox reactions at metal oxide (MOx) surfaces are implicated in many catalytic and energy conversion processes involving proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET). Nonetheless, the fundamental thermodynamics dictating PCET reactivity at the MOx/solution interface are not well understood. Herein, we connect the pH-dependent electrochemical response of MOx thin films with the bond dissociation free energies (BDFEs) of their electroactive surface O-H bonds, using NiO as a case study. Complementary voltammetric and spectroscopic experiments show that the electrochemically determined BDFEs predict much of the observed PCET reactivity at the NiO surface. Analyzing the reactivity of MOx materials in terms of BDFEs could enable new approaches for designing more active and efficient (electro)catalysts for important PCET reactions.

I found the field of Chemistry; Engineering very interesting. Saw the article Hydrothermal gasification of the isolated hemicellulose and sawdust of the white poplar (Populus alba L.) published in 2020.0. Category: indole-building-block, Reprint Addresses Gokkaya, DS (corresponding author), Ege Univ, Engn Fac, Dept Chem Engn, Izmir, Turkey.. The CAS is 150-19-6. Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of m-Methoxyphenol

Hydrothermal gasification of isolated hemicellulose from the white poplar (Populus alba L.) and white poplar sawdust were studied to evaluate the effects of temperature (in the range of 300-600 degrees C) and the catalyst on the yield of the products. Hydrothermal gasification of poplar sawdust represents a future alternative to the waste management of agricultural residues, and industry waste. Hydrothermal gasification of isolated hemicellulose was helpful to understand and analyze the catalytic gasification characteristics of natural biomass material with high hemicellulose composition. The results indicated that hemicellulose isolated from poplar produced more gaseous products than poplar sawdust. The hemicellulose isolated from poplar wood left lower amount of ingasified solid residue than the biomass studied. Also yields of xylose, which is commercially available as hemicellulosic fraction and was studied in our previous study, was compared with isolated hemicellulose and real biomass. Among them, isolated hemicellulose had the highest yield in gasification. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

1,2,3-Triazole contained conjugated porous polymers (CPPs) have recently emerged as a new class of efficient photocatalysts. To gain more insight into the excellent photocatalytic activity of this kind of CPPs, herein, we report the design and preparation of a series of 1,2,3-triazole-based CPPs via oxidative coupling polymerization to study their photocatalytic performance. These CPPs have donor-acceptor properties and 1,2,3-triazole serves as an electron acceptor. The resulting CPPs with thiophene, carbazole and diphenylamine as electron donor units, respectively, have distinct porosities and optoelectronic properties, and showed effective photocatalytic performance towards oxidative hydroxylation of arylboric acids and alkylation of vinylarenes with diethyl bromomalonate or bromoacetonitrile. The thiophene contained CPP was a more efficient photocatalyst for the catalytic reactions, which can be attributed to its smaller optical band gap and greater charge separation effi-ciency. Furthermore, PTPT has shown reliable recyclability with no significant loss in its catalytic activity.

Coumarins and their synthetic derivatives are extensively used as base chemicals in diverse industrial applications in the fields of pharmaceutics, cosmetics, and agrochemicals, among others. Due to the growing number of applications, the need for new methods of coumarins synthesis has gained importance worldwide. In this sense, the use of propylsulfonic acid supported in FDU-5 (FDU-5-Pr-SO3H) as a catalyst for the synthesis of coumarins via Pechmann condensation in solvent free medium was investigated. FDU-5-Pr-SO3H was synthesized by co-condensation of MPTES and TEOS. FDU-5-Pr-SO3H was used as catalyst for the synthesis of 7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin and reaction conditions were optimized. The optimization process involved the study of the influence of the catalyst load, Resorcinol:EAA molar ratio, reaction temperature and reaction time. The optimal conditions were: catalyst load of 1.65 mol %, reactants molar ratio of 1:1.5, temperature 130 degrees C and 60 min of reaction time. Under these conditions, the FDU-5-Pr-SO3H material showed excellent yield (96.5%) and turn over frequency (59 h(-1)). Finally, the synthetized material was assessed as a catalyst with other phenolic compounds with ethyl acetoacetate and with ethyl benzoylacetate. The obtained products were isolated and identified by comparison of their spectral data with those reported in literature; from these results can be concluded that the catalyst is active with a wide range of phenolic substrates.

Aim: Tumor cells adapt to hypoxic microenvironments by releasing the key transcription factor HIF-1 alpha, which promotes angiogenesis, glycolytic phenotype, metastasis and erythropoiesis, allowing proliferation amid low oxygen levels. Therefore, therapeutic targeting of HIF-1 alpha represents a viable strategy for cancer therapy. Methods & Results: The authors synthesized a series of novel tetrahydroquinazoline derivatives in six steps and demonstrated that their development had a unique ability to suppress HIF-1 alpha expression through proteasomal degradation. Conclusion: Among these compounds, CDMP-TQZ (8bf) exhibited the highest antiproliferative potency in human cancer cells, in part through downregulation of HIF-1 alpha.

The development of catalysts based on earth abundant metals in place of noble metals is becoming a central topic of catalysis. We herein report a cobalt/tetraphosphine complex-catalyzed homogeneous hydrogenation of polar unsaturated compounds using an air- and moisture-stable and scalable precatalyst. By activation with potassium hydroxide, this cobalt system shows both high efficiency (up to 24 000 TON and 12 000 h(-1) TOF) and excellent chemoselectivities with various aldehydes, ketones, imines, and even N-heteroarenes. The preference for 1,2-reduction over 1,4-reduction makes this method an efficient way to prepare allylic alcohols and amines. Meanwhile, efficient hydrogenation of the challenging N-heteroarenes is also furnished with excellent functional group tolerance. Mechanistic studies and control experiments demonstrated that a (CoH)-H-I complex functions as a strong hydride donor in the catalytic cycle. Each cobalt intermediate on the catalytic cycle was characterized, and a plausible outer-sphere mechanism was proposed. Noteworthy, external inorganic base plays multiple roles in this reaction and functions in almost every step of the catalytic cycle.
