The facile hydrothermal method was used to prepare low-dimensional doped Ag2O/Sb2O3 nanoparticles (NPs) at low temperature in alkaline medium. The calcined NPs were characterized in detail by FTIR, UV/vis, FESEM, XPS, EDS, and XRD. A thin layer of Ag2O/Sb2O3 NPs was deposited onto a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) using Nafion (5% Nafion suspension in ethanol) conducting binder, which formed the working electrode of the selective 3-methoxyphenol electrochemical sensor probe. The proposed chemical sensor exhibits high sensitivity, long-term stability, and enhanced electrochemical responses towards 3-methoxyphenol. Response to 3-methoxyphenol is linear over the concentration range (LDR) of 0.09 nM to 0.09 mM. The analytical parameters of the sensor such as sensitivity, stabillity, response time, linearity, LDR, robustness, selectivity etc. were evaluated by an electrochemical approach. The sensor probe fabricated with Ag2O/Sb2O3 NPs seems to be a promising candidate for effective and reliable electrochemical detection of hazardous and carcinogenic chemicals in the environment and health care fields in large scales.

Development of degradable polyester elastomers plays an important role in the applications of soft mateirals. Noncrystalline polymenthides (PMs) from menthol derived lactone monomers are excellent soft segments for preparing degradable polyester elastomers. By using cyclic trimeric phosphazene base (CTPB) as an organocatalyst, we successfully synthesized PMs with different molecular weights (8.2 kDa to 100.7 kDa) in high yields via ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of menthide. When a CTPB/urea binary catalytic system was adopted, the polymerizations proceeded in a more controlled manner. Using glycerol as initiator, star shaped PMs with well-defined structure were synthesized and subsequently end-capped by acrylate. UV irradiation of the terminal acrylate groups in the star-shaped PMs resulted in formation of chemically cross-linked polyester elastomers without heat or other stimuli. The obtained polyester elastomers exhibit matched modulus (3.8-5.5 MPa), tensile strength (0.56-0.68 MPa), and strain at break (280%-320%) with soft body tissues, displaying great potential in biomedical applications.

A one-pot, Hantzsch ester-mediated Knoevenagel condensation-reduction reaction has been developed for alkylation of a wide range of substituted 2,4-quinoline diols and 2,4-pyridine diols with aldehydes. Under metal- and ligand-free conditions, the economical and accessible CF3SO3H successfully catalyzed homogeneous O-H bond insertion reactions between hydroxyl compounds and diazo compounds. Including phenols, alcohols, water and oximes, these O-H bond insertion reactions are very general and functional-group tolerant. Here, we first report the O-H bond insertion of oximes (ketoximes and aldoximes), and their structures were characterized by X-ray crystallography. Moreover, a simple and effective method for S-H insertion reactions of thiols was also developed, delivering the desired C-S bond products with good to excellent yields. It is worth noting that the efficacy of the developed methodology could be further shown by the expeditious synthesis of the PPAR agonist MBX-102 acid.

This paper describes the synthesis of polyindole by chemical oxidative polymerization using copper chloride as oxidant. Polyindole was characterized by various spectroscopic techniques like FT-IR, XRD, FESEM, and TGA. The XRD pattern confirms the semi-crystalline nature of polyindole. An efficient, solvent-free, ultrasound-assisted synthesis of biologically active 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1 H)-one/thiones (DHPM) derivatives is reported by using polyindole as a recyclable catalyst. The advantages of this method are mild reaction conditions, short reaction time, excellent yields with high purity and low loading of catalyst. Polyindole can be used several times without loss of significant catalytic activity as compared to the other reported catalysts. Factors affecting on the rate of reaction, like use of ultrasonication, temperature, solvent, amount, and recyclability of catalyst have also been studied.

Aims and Objectives: Microwave-assisted condensation of acetophenone 1 and aromatic aldehydes 2 gave chalcone analogs 3, which were cyclized to pyrazole derivatives 6a-f via the reaction with hydrazine hydrate and oxalic acid in the presence of the catalytic amount of acetic acid in ethanol. Materials and Methods: The structural features of the synthesized compounds were characterized by melting point, FT-IR, H-1, C-13 NMR and elemental analysis. Results: The antibacterial activities of the synthesized pyrazoles were evaluated against three gram-positive bacteria, such as Enterococcus durans, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and two gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. Conclusion: All the synthesized pyrazoles showed relatively high antibacterial activity against S. aureus strain, and none of them demonstrated antibacterial activity against E. coli.
