A novel series of 7,8-dichlorobenzofuro[3,2-c]quinoline-6,9,10(5H)-triones was obtained regioselectively in good yields. The products were formed by the reactions of the 4-hydroxy-2(1H)-quinolinones with 3,4,5,6-tetrachloro-1,2-benzoquinone in tetrahydrofuran as the solvent. In the present work, the accelerated ageing process of sherry vinegar has been studied at pilot scale by means of the joint application of ultrasound, micro-oxygenation and wood chips (American oak, French oak and Spanish oak). The CIELab parameters have been studied as well as the polyphenolic and volatile content of the aged vinegar samples. Vinegars aged with American oak presented different chromatic characteristics to those aged with French and Spanish oak and a lower polyphenolic and volatile content than the latter ones. On the other hand, Spanish oak generated vinegars with a higher content of volatile compounds and an intermediate poly phenolic profile between those obtained using French and American oak. In addition, the use of ultrasound for a period between 4 and 21 days, generated vinegars with similar characteristics to others that were aged in the traditional way for between 2 and 6 months. It has been demonstrated that the use of ultrasound, combined with micro-oxygenation and chip addition, is a technique which can accelerate the ageing process of vinegars at a pilot scale, so it could be a viable alternative to obtain sherry vinegars aged in a shorter time.

A fast and facile synthesis of TiO2- Al2O3 nanocomposite based on Microwave (MW) irradiation is presented. The nanocomposite development were corroborated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX),and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR)analysis. The XPS analyzed results affirmed that elements on the nanocomposite surface were Al and O. Electrochemical properties of the as prepared TiO2-Al2O3 nanocomposites were studied thoroughly to determine the sensing activity of the nanocomposites towards 3,4-Diaminotoluene (3,4-DAT) which is a harmful or hazardous chemical using I-V method. Selective electrochemical sensor using TiO2-Al2O3 nanocomposite onto glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was assembled and the details electrochemical investigation of 3,4-Diaminotoluene (3,4-DAT) was developed. It was calibrated using in range of 3,4-DAT concentration and data were plotted as current versus concentration. Considering the highest linearity (r(2)=0.99)of calibrated range, the linear dynamic range (1.0 pM similar to 1.0 mu M) was found. Employing the slope of calibration curve, the sensitivity (0.5024×10(3) mu A mu M(-1)cm(-3)) and detection limit (0.19 +/- 0.01 pM) were estimated. Besides this, the selective 3,4-DAT chemical sensor was shown long-term stability and precious reproducibility with very short response time without any interference effect.

A novel aromatic diamine monomer, 4-(4-diethylamino)phenyl-2,6-bis(4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenyl)pyridine (EPAPP), containing pyridine ring units, ether linkage moieties and diethylaminophenyl pendent groups, has been designed and synthesized through three-step methods, and then used to prepare for a series of polyimides with commercial aromatic dianhydrides via two-step solution polycondensation. The resulting polyimides showed good solubility in common polar solvents, such as NMP, DMF, DMSO. They exhibited high thermal stability with the glass transition temperature (T(g)s) more than 254 degrees C, and the temperature of 10% weight loss over 544 degrees C with more than 64% residue at 800 degrees C under nitrogen. They presented excellent hydrophobic properties with the contact angle in the range of 81.9-91.9 degrees. In addition, the results of Wide-angle X-ray Diffraction (WAXD) indicated that these polymers revealed an amorphous structure.

Therefore, the development of a new catalyst which works at a broad pH range is essential as it can gain a broader scope of utilization. Here we report highly efficient polypyridyl iridium(III) catalysts, [Ir(tPY)(L)Cl](PF6)(2) (where tpy = 2,2′:6′,2-Terpyridine, L = phen (1,10-Phenanthroline), Me(2)phen (4,7-Di methyl-1,10-phenanthroline), Me(4)phen (3,4,7,8-Tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline), Me(2)bpy (4,4′-Dimet hyl-2-2′-dipyridyl)) for the chemoselective reduction of aldehydes to alcohols in aqueous ethanol and sodium formate as the hydride source. The reaction can be carried out efficiently in broad pH ranges, from pH 6 to 11. These catalysts are air stable, easy to prepare using commercially available starting materials, and are highly applicable for a wide range of substrates, such as electron-rich or deficient (hetero)arenes, halogens, phenols, alkoxy, ketones, esters, carboxylic acids, cyano, and nitro groups. Particularly, acid and hydroxy groups containing aldehydes were reduced successfully in basic and acidic reaction conditions, demonstrating the efficiency of the catalyst in a broad pH range with high conversion rates under microwave irradiation. A redox-active iminoquinone motif connected with pi-delocalized pyrene core has been reported that can perform efficient two-electron oxidation of a class of substrates. The design of the molecule was inspired by the organic redox cofactor topaquinone (TPQ), which executes amine oxidation in the enzyme, copper amine oxidase. Easy oxidation of both primary and secondary alcohols happened in the presence of catalytic KOtBu, which could reduce the ligand backbone to its iminosemiquinonate form under photoinduced conditions. Moreover, this easy oxidation of alcohols under aerobic condition could be elegantly extended to multi-component, one-pot coupling for the synthesis of quinoline and pyrimidine. This organocatalytic approach is very mild (70 degrees C, 8 h) compared to a multitude of transition-metal catalysts that have been used to prepare these heterocycles. A detailed mechanistic study proves the intermediacy of the iminosemiquinonate-type radical and a critical hydrogen atom transfer step to be involved in the dehydrogenation reaction.
