The activation of pyridinium salts with electron-withdrawing heterocycles enables an iridium-catalyzed reductive hydroxymethylation reaction to proceed smoothly, facilitating the preparation of useful 3D heteroaryl-substituted functionalized piperidines. The methodology is used to prepare 3-hydroxymethylated analogues of pharmaceutical agents. Mechanistically, formaldehyde acts as both a hydride donor and the electrophile, leading to the formation of two new carbon-hydrogen bonds and one new carbon-carbon bond under relatively mild conditions.

The synthesis of valuable organic compounds from naturally available and renewable biomass is an open field of research towards adaptation in real-life applications. Photocatalytic valorization is assumed as a potential candidate, although the lower efficiency of the traditional batch photocatalytic reactor sets some drawbacks. Recently, photocatalytic microreactors revealed as a prosperous candidate for various photocatalytic reactions, especially for selective oxidation. This area of research is challenging due to the development of the proper photocatalytic microreactor for the targeted application. Deposition of the catalyst on the internal surface of the microreactor, the sufficient utilization of the irradiation, optimization of the reaction parameters are among the most vital parameters that should be considered upon the design. Although, to obtain the most active material and tune its crucial features to maximize its catalytic performance inside the microreactors is the uppermost important part. This work introduces ultrasound-assisted TiO2 deposition on the inner walls of a perfluoroalkoxyalkane microtube under mild conditions. The deposition experiments were carried out with commercial and sol-gel synthesized TiO2. The materials were characterized by XRD, UV-vis DRS, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and nitrogen sorption. The photocatalytic activities of the TiO2 nano-engineered fluoropolymer based microreactors were evaluated for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol in flow.

The solubility of pidotimod was measured by employing a dynamic equilibrium method in nine pure solvents [water, methanol, benzyl alcohol, ethanol, acetone, iso-propanol, n-butanol, acetonitrile, and N,N-dimethyl formamide (DMF)] and two binary solvents (methanol + acetone and methanol + butyl acetate) from 278.15 to 323.15 K, and mole fraction solubility of pidotimod increased with increasing measured temperature in all systems under atmospheric pressure. The mole fraction solubility of pidotimod in pure solvents is the highest in DMF and lowest in acetone. For the methanol + acetone binary solvent system, the solubility of pidotimod at the same temperature is higher than that in their neat solvents. In methanol + butyl acetate binary solvents, the solubility decreased with the increasing concentration of butyl acetate. The experimental solubility of pidotimod in the pure solvents was correlated with the Apelblat, Wilson, and NRTL models; it showed that the models agreed well with experimental data. Good correlation was also obtained by Wilson, NRTL, and CNIBS/R-K models for binary solvents. The solute-solvent interactions in the pure solvents were investigated according to the linear solvation energy relationship using multiple linear regression analysis.

The design of multi-target directed ligands (MTDLs) is a valid approach for obtaining effective drugs for complex pathologies. MTDLs that combine neuro-repair properties and block the first steps of neurotoxic cascades could be the so long wanted remedies to treat neurodegenerative diseases (NDs). By linking two privileged scaffolds with well-known activities in ND-targets, the flavonoid and the N,N-dibenzyl(N-methyl)amine (DBMA) fragments, new CNS-permeable flavonoid – DBMA hybrids (1-13) were obtained. They were subjected to biological evaluation in a battery of targets involved in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other NDs, namely human cholinesterases (hAChE/hBuChE), beta-secretase (hBACE-1), monoamine oxidases (hMAO-A/B), lipoxygenase-5 (hLOX-5) and sigma receptors (sigma R-1/sigma R-2). After a funnel-type screening, 6,7-dimethoxychromone – DBMA (6) was highlighted due to its neurogenic properties and an interesting MTD-profile in hAChE, hLOX-5, hBACE-1 and sigma R-1. Molecular dynamic simulations showed the most relevant drug-protein interactions of hybrid 6, which could synergistically contribute to neuronal regeneration and block neurodegeneration.

We report herein the synthesis of a polymeric photosensitizer and its application in aerobic photooxidative hydroxylation of boronic acids. The polymeric photosensitizer was synthesized by the condensation of anthraquinone-2-carbonyl chloride (AQ-2-COCl) with poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA). The photo-oxidative hydroxylation of boronic acids using anthraquinone-containing-poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (AQ-PHEMA) was then explored and shown to exhibit high efficiency and broad scope. Moreover, AQ-PHEMA could be easily recovered and reused for more than 20 times without significant loss of the catalytic activity.

For the first time, a one pot thermolysis of [Pd(PPh3)(2)Cl-2] prepared by reacting Ph3P with PdCl2 in a 2 : 1 molar ratio in MeOH at 280 degrees C in a trioctylphosphine (TOP) and oleylamine(OA)-octadecane(ODE) mixture (1 : 1) was used to prepare quantum dots (QDs; size similar to 2-3 nm) and nanoparticles (NPs; size similar to 13-14 nm), respectively, of composition Pd3P0.(95). TEM, SEM-EDX, powder-XRD and XPS (for QDs only) were used to authenticate the two nanophases. P-31{H-1}NMR experiments performed to monitor the progress of thermolysis reactions revealed that the phosphorus present in the Pd3P0.(95) QDs had come from TOP, whereas in Pd3P0.(95) NPs, its source is triphenylphosphine. The nature of the solvent did not affect the chemical composition of the nano-phase but controlled its size. Probably, solvent dependent, unique, single source precursors (SSPs) of palladium were generated in situ, and controlled the size. The catalytic activity of both Pd3P0.(95) QDs and NPs was explored. The QDs were found to be efficient as a catalyst for the amide-nitrile interconversion at room temperature (yield up to 92% in 4 h), hydration of nitriles and transfer hydrogenation (TH) of carbonyl compounds with yields up to 96% in 3-4 h. The yields and reaction rates of amide-nitrile inter-conversion and TH when catalyzed by Pd3P0.95 QDs were found to be higher compared to the ones observed with the Pd/C catalyst. The binding energy of Pd(3d) in the X-ray photoelectron spectrum (XPS) of Pd3P0.95 indicated an electron transfer from the metal to phosphorus, resulting in electron deficient palladium, which facilitates the coordination of a substrate to Pd and drives the reaction. The reusability of Pd3P0.(95) QDs for the interconversion was found to be up to 4-times, while for the transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds it was up to 6-times, but with a diminished yield. Pd3P0.(95) NPs were found to be less active (yield up to 36% in optimized reaction conditions) in comparison to Pd3P0.(95) QDs. The mercury poisoning test suggested that the catalysis predominantly proceeded heterogeneously on the surface of the QDs. The PXRD and XPS results did not suggest a significant variation in the phase of QDs after the third catalytic cycle. The bleeding of Pd during catalysis (determined by flame AAS) and the agglomeration of QDs as supported by the SEM-EDX and TEM results are probably responsible for the reduction in the catalytic activity of QDs after reusing three times.

Quality Control of Benzyl Alcohol. I found the field of Chemistry; Physics very interesting. Saw the article Aloysia citrodora leaves extract corrosion retardation effect on mild-steel in acidic solution: Molecular/atomic scales and electrochemical explorations published in 2020.0, Reprint Addresses Bahlakeh, G (corresponding author), Golestan Univ, Fac Engn, Dept Chem Engn, Aliabad Katoul, Iran.; Ramezanzadeh, B (corresponding author), Inst Color Sci & Technol, Dept Surface Coatings & Corros, POB 16765-654, Tehran, Iran.. The CAS is 100-51-6. Through research, I have a further understanding and discovery of Benzyl Alcohol.

In the present research, the aqueous-extract of Aloysia citrodora leaves (Ac.L) was chosen as mild steel (MS) inhibitor against 1 M HCl medium. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) outcomes demonstrated that in the presence of 800 ppm Ac.L extract, and at immersion time of 2.5 h the MS corrosion was noticeably retarded by 94% inhibition degree. The kinetics of corrosion retardation were inspected by polarization studies, and the respective achievements declared that the Aloysia citrodora leaves extract constituents could retard corrosion reactions via cathodic/anodic (mixed) inhibition mechanism. The surface investigation results proved the effectiveness of Aloysia citrodora leaves extracts in MS surface damage retardation. Alongside the electrochemical/surface studies, comprehensive theoretical explorations utilizing Monte Carlo (MC)/molecular dynamics (MD) and quantum chemical computations of density functional theory (DFT) ensured the phytochemicals binding on target metallic substrate. One-pot synthesis of imines from benzyl alcohols and anilines by heterogeneous catalysis in batch reactor has already been widely studied, but its high cost and low production efficiency limit its application in the fine chemicals industry. In this work, gamma-Al2O3 balls supported CeO2 catalyst (uip-gamma-Al2O3-CeO2) was prepared by a novel unsaturated-impregnation-precipitation method, and was employed as a catalyst for continuous solvent-free synthesis of imines in a fixed bed reactor. Under the optimal technological parameter of fixed bed reactor and reaction condition, uip-gamma-Al2O3-CeO2-500 degrees C obtained remarkable 97 % yield of imine. After 20 days’ continuous operation, the total isolated yield of imine and TONBA/CeO2 reached up to 81 % and 16838, respectively. Importantly, the catalyst could be reactivated in situ in the fixed reactor. Through detailed characterization, the extraordinary catalytic performance of uip-gamma-Al2O3-CeO2-500 degrees C can be attributed to the abundant acid sites of gamma-Al2O3 as well as the synergistic effect between CeO2 and gamma-Al2O3.
