Ce-UiO-66 MOF, namely cerium-organic framework was prepared through a fast and efficient method under ultrasonic radiation. After preparation, it was identified using some different microscopic and spectroscopic techniques such as PXRD, FT-IR, TG/DTA, BET, BJH, and FE-SEM. The catalytic activity of Ce-UiO-66 MOF was checked in aerobic oxidation of methyl arenas, alcohols and styrene derivatives in a sustainable circumstance with no additives. Moreover, its catalytic activity was surveyed influenced by a number of variables in the ultrasonic synthesis method. Some parameters such as solvent, base, temperature, amount of the catalyst and time were also tested to optimize the aerobic oxidation reaction. After the 10th run, the recycled Ce-MOF showed an acceptable efficiency, which proved its high reusability and stability under optimized conditions. Furthermore, the Ce-UiO-66 was investigated structurally by PXRD method which demonstrated the catalyst stability after the aerobic oxidation reaction.

ZnWO4 catalysts are brilliant in the field of photocatalysis due to their excellent chemical stability and optical properties. In this work, we prepared pure ZnWO4 by a hydrothermal method, evaluated its ability to degrade toluene and elucidated the photocatalytic reaction mechanism. The results showed that ZnWO4 had excellent catalytic activity and stability. Combining the ESR spectroscopy spectra and DFT calculation results, ZnWO4 was found to adsorb a large amount of O-2 and H2O, and activate them to produce active radicals participating in the oxidation reaction of toluene. The reactions to form benzyl alcohol and benzoic acid could be carried out spontaneously based on the Gibbs free energy calculation results and in situ DRIFTS spectra, which indicated that benzaldehyde can be easily converted to benzoic acid. The ring opening reaction is more likely to be carried out on benzoic acid. The findings of this work can extend the application of ZnWO4 materials and the understanding of the mechanism of photocatalytic degradation of toluene.

Environmental fate or transport of pharmaceutical waste depends on the adsorptive interactions of pharmaceuticals with various environmental phases e.g. soil, sediment, microalgae, and bacteria etc. Therefore, it is important to understand these adsorptive interactions. As part of the study, we studied the adsorptive interaction of 30 chemicals with microalgae, i.e. Chlorella vulgaris, because it is ubiquitous and its surface area occupies a high proportion in aquatic environments. For this study, isotherms between C vulgaris and 30 micropollutants in neutral and ionic forms (i.e. 15 cations, 5 anions, and 10 neutrals) were experimentally measured, and their adsorptive affinities were then theoretically predicted based on the concept of the linear free energy relationship. For modeling, the dataset was divided into a training set and a test set, where the training set was used for model development and the test set was performed for model validation. This process was repeated ten times. Finally, we suggested one model which has high predictability in R-2 of 0.96 and standard error (SE) of 0.17 log unit for the training set, R-2 of 0.818 and SE = 0.217 log unit for the test set, and R-2 of 0.926 and SE of 0.169 log unit for the total dataset. Moreover, it was found that dispersive force, H-bond basicity, molecular volume, and electrostatic interaction of anion significantly contribute to the model developed based on the entire dataset. Here, dispersive and hydrophobic interactions (proportional to the magnitude of molecular size) are main attractive forces, while the rest cases are repulsive. In addition, it was found that the adsorption property of the surface of C. vulgaris differs from those of Gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli and dissolved organic matters in an aquatic environment. In this work, a series of water-soluble propofol prodrugs were synthesized, and their propofol release rate and pharmacodynamic characteristics were measured. We found that inserting glycolic acid as a linker between propofol and the cyclic amino acid accelerated the release of propofol from prodrugs into the plasma while preserving its safety. In animal experiments, prodrugs (3e, 3g, and 3j) were significantly better than fospropofol (the only water-soluble propofol prodrug that has been used clinically) in terms of safety, onset, and duration time of anesthesia. Their molar dose, onset time, and anesthesia duration time were comparable to those of propofol, helping to maintain the clinical benefits of propofol. The experimental results showed the potential of such compounds as water-soluble prodrugs of propofol.

Arylchlorides and arylbromides are typically prepared via Friedel-Crafts reaction, using oxidative halogenation or employing halogen transfer agents, such as N-chloro- and N-bromosuccineimide. Herein, we show that K-PHI, a photocatalyst of the carbon nitride family, can easily photooxidize halide anions (Cl- Br- ) in aqueous media to promote oxidative halogenation of electron rich aromatic compounds. The technique is convenient, safe and gives the haloaromatic products with excellent yields from non-harmful starting reagents in the most sustainable fashion. We show that a solution of NaCl, mimicking seawater, can be used as a reagent for photochlorination.

Hierarchical UiO-66 and its amino-analogue UiO-66-NH2 nanocrystals were successfully synthesized by introducing a suitable amount of water into the conventional synthesis of UiO-66/UiO-66-NH2 without the need for a chelating agent, surfactant or aging. The hierarchical porous qualities and particle sizes of the UiO-66/UiO-66-NH2 products can be facilely tuned by the amounts of water. Hierarchical UiO-66/UiO-66-NH2 nanocrystals exhibited significantly enhanced adsorption capacity for dyes and catalytic activity in esterification/Knoevenagel reactions compared to the microporous UiO-66/UiO-66-NH2. X-ray-responsive nanocarriers for anticancer drug delivery have shown great promise for enhancing the efficacy of chemoradiotherapy. A critical challenge remains for development of such radiation-controlled drug delivery systems (DDSs), which is to minimize the required X-ray dose for triggering the cargo release. Herein, we design and fabricate an effective DDS based on diselenide block copolymers (as nanocarrier), which can be triggered to release their cargo with a reduced radiation dose of 2 Gy due to their sensitivity to both X-ray and the high level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the microenvironment of cancer cells. The underlying molecular mechanism is further illustrated by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 NMR) experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. In vivo experiments on tumor-bearing mice validated that the loaded drugs are effectively delivered to the tumor site and exert remarkable antitumor effects (minimum tumor volume/weight) along with X-ray. Furthermore, the diselenide nanocarriers exhibit no noticeable cytotoxicity. These findings provide new insights for the de novo design of radiation-controlled DDSs for cancer chemoradiotherapy.

Identification of 3D printable materials is crucial to expand the breadth of physical and chemical properties attainable by additive manufacturing. Stereolithography (SLA), a wide-spread 3D printing method based on resin photopolymerization, is ideally suited for exploring a large variety of monomers to produce functional three-dimensional solids of diverse properties. However, for most commercial SLA printers, screening monomers and resin compositions requires large volumes (similar to 150 mL) in each printing cycle, making the process costly and inefficient. Herein, a high throughput block (HTB) adaptor was developed to screen arrays of monomers and resin compositions, consuming lower volumes (<2 mL) and less time per print (<1/16 based on a 4 x 4 matrix) than using the original hardware. By use of this approach, a library of materials with different surface hydrophobicities were 3D printed by including long chain acrylates in the resins. In addition, several metal salts were dissolved in an acrylic acid-based resin, 3D printed, and screened as benzyl alcohol oxidation catalysts. Cu(II)-based resins produced the most active structures. Combinations of Cu(II) and long chain acrylate monomers were then used to 3D print complex catalytic architectures with varying degrees of hydrophobicity. Linear relationships were observed between 3D printed surface area, surface hydrophobicity, and catalyst performance. For a high surface Schwarz P topology ca. 60% enhancement in the catalytic activity of Cu(II) was attained by replacing the parent resin with one containing hydrophobic isodecyl groups, indicating that the immediate environment of the catalytic site affected its performance. The HTB enables fast screening of resins for 3D printing multifunctional architectures with intrinsic catalytic activity, tunable surface properties, and minimal waste. The first-generation synthesis proceeded via a regioselective SNAr reaction on the advanced starting material t-butyl 5-chloro-2,4-difluorobenzoate with 1-adamantanemethanol. In the newly developed second-generation synthesis, the much improved regioselective SNAr reaction was performed on the readily available starting material 1-chloro-2,4-difluorobenzene, followed by installation of the carboxylate group by electrophilic aromatic bromination and a palladium-catalyzed alkoxycarbonylation. A subsequent Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction was then telescoped directly into a phase-transfer-catalyzed ester hydrolysis. Amidation of the resulting acid intermediate with 1-azetidine sulfamide in turn provided GDC-0276 in high overall yield and purity on a 100 kg scale.
