77Se and 125Te NMR spectroscopy on a selectivity study of organochalcogenanes with L-amino acids

The hypervalent selenium- and tellurium-containing compounds (halo-organoselenuranes and halo-organotelluranes) were treated with amino acids to evaluate their reactivity and chemoselectivity by 1H, 13C, 77Se and 125Te NMR spectroscopy. The study of forced thermal stability was performed and analyzed by NMR. The organotelluranes remained stable at temperatures around 60 C but in the case of organoselenuranes, there was formation of new products at 37 C as a result of halogen loss. 77Se and 125Te NMR spectroscopy has proved to be a very efficient and fast technique to evidence the high selectivity of organochalcogenanes against l-amino acids, specific to l-cysteine.

Tributyltin grafted onto the surface of 3-aminopropyl functionalized gamma-Fe2O3 nanoparticles: A magnetically-recoverable catalyst for trimethylsilylation of alcohols and phenols

Bonding of a homogenous tributyltin chloride catalyst on the surface of functionalized magnetic nanoparticles provides a new stable, efficient and magnetically recyclable catalyst for trimethylsilylation of alcohols and phenols with hexamethyldisilazan under mild reaction conditions. The catalyst showed good stability and could be reused at least 10 times. The catalyst was characterized using spectroscopic, magnetic, and thermal techniques (FT-IR, SEM, TEM, XRD, ICP, VSM, and TGA). This journal is the Partner Organisations 2014.

Synthesis and Characterization of Pd Schiff Base Complex Immobilized onto Functionalized Nanoporous MCM-41 and its Catalytic Efficacy in the Suzuki, Heck and Stille Coupling Reactions

Abstract: The present work describes the use of palladium-vanillin-Schiff-base complex immobilized on MCM-41 nanostructure as efficient catalyst for the Suzuki?Miyaura, Stille and Mizoroki?Heck reactions of several aryl halides under aerobic conditions. All the reactions were carried out in green solvents (H2O and PEG-400). The developed procedure results bring several benefits such as uses of inexpensive and non-toxic ligand (vanillin), easy catalyst/product separation and catalyst recycling. The catalyst can be reused at least for five consecutive cycles without a significant loss of its catalytic activity or metal leaching. Graphical Abstract: [Figure not available: see fulltext.].

Synthesis, Reactivity, Functionalization, and ADMET Properties of Silicon-Containing Nitrogen Heterocycles

Silicon-containing compounds have been largely ignored in drug design and development, despite their potential to improve not only the potency but also the physicochemical and ADMET (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, toxicity) properties of drug-like candidates because of the unique characteristics of silicon. This deficiency is in large part attributable to a lack of general methods for synthesizing diverse organosilicon structures. Accordingly, a new building block strategy has been developed that diverges from traditional approaches to incorporation of silicon into drug candidates. Flexible, multi-gram-scale syntheses of silicon-containing tetrahydroquinoline and tetrahydroisoquinoline building blocks are described, along with methods by which diversely functionalized silicon-containing nitrogen heterocycles can be rapidly built using common reactions optimized to accommodate the properties of silicon. Furthermore, to better clarify the liabilities and advantages of silicon incorporation, select compounds and their carbon analogues were challenged in ADMET-focused biological studies.

P(NMe2)3-Mediated Umpolung Alkylation and Nonylidic Olefination of alpha-Keto Esters

A commercial phosphorus-based reagent (P(NMe2)3) mediates umpolung alkylation of methyl aroylformates with benzylic and allylic bromides, leading to either Barbier-type addition or ylide-free olefination products upon workup. The reaction sequence is initiated by a two-electron redox addition of the tricoordinate phosphorus reagent with an alpha-keto ester compound (Kukhtin-Ramirez addition). A mechanistic rationale is offered for the chemoselectivity upon which the success of this nonmetal mediated C-C bond forming strategy is based.
